Andromeda Cookery School

Chefs-01The Andromeda Centre Cookery School is set on a hillside in the heart of Lourdas, Kefalonia, and is about 45 minutes drive from the airport. It is also easily accessible from the ports of Poros, Sami and Pessada.

One of very few cookery schools in the Western Greece, the Andromeda Cookery School is the brainchild of a Kostas Minetos, a Kefalonian who gained his experience as a chef in the UK. Kostas is already well known to many regular Kefalonia visitors for his hospitality at the Eleni Studios which are situated not far away. Cooking is one of his passions and it has long been his dream to open his own cookery school.

The Andromeda Centre is based in a brand new building with a large kitchen, equipped throughout with the latest professional catering equipment by Electrolux. The Courses range from a one-day fun cookery course, which you can sign up for during your holiday, to more formal 3 and 7 day courses, bookable in advance.

The hobs are gas operated, which in Kefalonia means using bottled gas as there is no mains gas supply. Steam Cooking is a technique that is fully explored Andromeda Cookery School. Steaming is used for healthier cooking, but of course deep fat cooking is also covered, as is shallow cooking in olive oil - traditional Greek method of preparing mainly vegetable dishes, but using the latest specialist equipment.

CookerySchool-02Multi-wave is a patented microwave technology that combines with the other cooking modes to dramatically decrease cooking times, while providing the same quality result as a combination oven. It also allows for the use of metal pans, trays and grids.

To develop this system Electrolux Professional has worked closely with leading international kitchens to ensure that the process exactly met the requirements of professional chefs, offering advantages in term of time gain, quality and flexibility. This new system can revolutionise the cooking of every professional.

For those seeking more than a one-day fun Greek cookery school the Andromeda Centre offers an in-depth cookery experience with tailor made cookery courses intended for those wishing to start their own business in catering. Using all the latest technology and up to the minute Swiss professional equipment, the course is an induction into the professional catering approach covering all aspects of health and safety and European laws concerning catering as well as a wide range of recipes and cookery techniques. The programme is centred round Greek and Kefalonian cookery and recipes using the local produce wherever possible.
